Due to continued growth and a need to strengthen the current operations management team, we are looking to recruit a Shift Manager to provide shift leadership in our fast-moving 24/7 operation. Reporting to the UK Manufacturing Manager, the role will take responsibility for all shift activities; Output, Quality, H&S, Manufacturing Efficiency (Yield), Maintenance Activities, Staff Management, Continuous Improvement Initiatives, and Shift Administration.

Duties will include:

  • Liaising with colleagues to ensure the work activities of all extrusion lines is carried out in line with production plan in order to keep ‘downtime’ to a minimum.
  • Ensuring production output across the shift is in accordance with Company and customer quality guidelines, e.g. colour, tolerance, profile.
  • Ensure that non-conformance is challenged and counter-measures are agreed and implemented
  • Reporting on downtime, scrap, and quality issues, and escalating as appropriate.
  • Taking appropriate action to remedy products identified as being out of specification and following appropriate notification procedure.
  • Effectively managing the team ensuring that KPI’s (key performance indicators) are achieved.
  • Managing absences to ensure minimal impact on team/KPI’s.
  • Managing holiday allocation on shift.
  • Training, coaching and motivating team to ensure effective skill levels and multi skilling across machines.
  • Continuous auditing of conduct in line with Safety, Quality, Food safety and Production guidelines.
  • Incident investigation.
  • Shift and overtime planning.
  • Data collection.
  • Root cause analysis.
  • Appraisal and feedback activity.
  • Develop work related instructions.
  • Carry out risk assessments and contribute to a wider culture and H&S excellence.
  • Performing formal investigations and disciplinary meetings with the support of HR.

The ideal candidate will have previous supervisory/team leadership experience within a fast moving manufacturing environment.

Applicants should also be able to demonstrate:

  • The ability to work to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication/people management skills.
  • The ability to work with minimum supervision and as part of a wider multi-functional team.
  • Strong motivation to achieve and sustain quantitative and qualitative results and deliver tangible improvements.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certificate/similar or commitment to complete the qualification whilst in the role.
  • Proven record in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and resolution in a mature manner.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.
  • Familiarity with modern manufacturing tools; 5S, Lean, Six Sigma, Poke Yoke, Kaizen.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Maintenance/Engineering Managers, you will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing operation by performing preventative and reactive maintenance on a range of plant and machinery and standard factory facilities to ensure minimum factory down-time and maximum machine availability.

Main Duties

  • Implementing and executing preventative maintenance programme for site plant and equipment
  • Maintaining inventory of repair equipment and supplies
  • Troubleshooting by consulting blueprints, schematics, electrical drawings, and other sources as necessary
  • Responding to Company’s maintenance emergency needs, including on call
  • Assisting with equipment installations
  • Operating/interrogating controls/PLC
  • Routine lubrication of equipment
  • Identification and implementation of continuous improvement activities
  • Learn the Extrusion process to assist in troubleshooting
  • Downtime analysis / Root cause analysis

Essential Criteria

The ideal candidate must have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship in a relevant mechanical discipline with some electrical knowledge and experience in a similar role, have a good working knowledge of and be able to demonstrate competence in standard engineering disciplines including hydraulics and pneumatics, and day to day fault finding ability.

Desirable Criteria

  • Worked in a manufacturing factory environment
  • Knowledge of the Extrusion process and maintaining extrusion equipment including, as examples, changing heaters, granulator blades, level sensors, safety devices, proximity switches, bearings, and rollers.
  • Experience with scissor lifts and Cherry pickers

The Tooling Division offers packaging design, rapid prototyping, sampling, and full production tooling services to a wide range of Thermoformed packaging manufacturers.

Role
TDX are now recruiting for an experienced CNC Operative with the following competency:

  • Experience in operating CNC Machining Centres using Mazatrol Controllers
  • 3 Axis Machining Centre operating experience (Minimum 5 years)
  • 5 Axis Machining experience beneficial but not essential
  • Experienced in reading and quality checking drawings to achieve right first-time product
  • Basic CNC Mazatrol programming experience required

Job position: Extrusion Technician

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be responsible for the production of sheet to required customer specification and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.

Day to day activities will include:

  • Carrying out work activities in line with production plan in order to keep ‘downtime’ to a minimum
  • Production of sheet in accordance with Company and customer quality guidelines, e.g. colour, tolerance, profile
  • Maximising line speed whilst maintaining sheet quality
  • Ensuring edge trims are within agreed parameters/acceptable levels
  • Conducting regular quality control checks and recording data
  • Ensuring accurate completion of production documentation
  • Taking appropriate action to remedy products identified as being out of specification and following appropriate procedure to notify the Company
  • Monitoring Extrusion Operative activities and providing support to ensure that duties are carried out to the appropriate levels

The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for technical work and an understanding of the extrusion process although full training will be provided.
Applicants should also have:

  • The ability to work to deadlines
  • Good communication skills
  • The ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Awareness of current Health & Safety practices

Hours of work:
Continental shifts – 4 days on/2 days off/3 nights on/2 days off/3 days on/2 days off/4 nights on/8 days off
Average hours of work – 42 per week
6.30am – 6.30pm dayshift
6.30pm – 6.30am nightshift

Job position: Extrusion Operative

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be responsible for the production of sheet to required customer specification and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.

Main duties:

  • “Haul off’ of rolls at the end of the extrusion line
  • Pack finished goods in accordance with agreed packing specifications
  • Apply appropriate labelling to finished goods
  • Log both ‘good’ and ‘scrap’ material accurately and efficiently
  • Cut cores and replenish consumable goods as appropriate to ensure effective running of line
  • Ensure bath units are topped up with correct solution
  • Conduct and accurately record quality control checks, taking remedial action where required
  • Clean rollers as required to ensure effective operation of equipment
  • Ensure raw materials supplies and material feed are maintained
  • Removal of ‘scrap’ product, following appropriate procedures
  • Follow appropriate procedure to notify the Company if the product is out of specification
  • Adopt a ‘clean as you go’ approach to ensure housekeeping standards are effectively maintained
  • Carry out duties in accordance with all Company policies, procedures and SOP’s
  • Support and train colleagues where necessary, in line with work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Carry out duties in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Contribute to and participate in Company activities
  • Contribute to the business by identifying opportunities for improving working practices, processes and/or procedures based on experience
  • Carry out additional and/or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business

Applicants should also have:

  • Production experience gained in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
